Does Diabetes affect me?
Chances are someone you know has diabetes:
- Over 2 million
Canadians have diabetes
- Diabetes costs
BC’s health care system more than 2 million
dollars a day
- It is estimated
that over 250,000 British Columbians have
Diabetes.
- By 2010, it's expected
that 305,000 people will be living with diabetes
in BC
- 90% of diabetes
cases are type 2 (adult onset diabetes) which
is primarily associated with lifestyle factors
including diet and exercise
Risk Factors
for type 2 diabetes include:
- being over 40,
- carrying excess
weight,
- engage in a low
level or physical activity, smoke, and / have
high blood pressure.
Complications
resulting from diabetes include heart disease,
kidney disease, blindness, amputations and erectile
dysfunction.
